Write on lined paper, or type your answers on a computer.

  1. Do now: using the questions to help you, mind map all the ideas/connotations associated with ‘faceless’ (10 mins)

  2. Listen to the poem ‘Faceless’. (5 mins)

  3. .Write one sentence explaining what you think the poem is about. (3 mins)

  4. Listen again, choose one specific line that stood out to you and write it down.(10 mins)

  1. .What stands out to you about this line?

  2. .What negative / positive connotations does it have?

  3. .What does it suggest/imply/reveal?

  4. .How does it form your opinion about the whole poem?

  1. Re-read the poem again. What journey is the poem taking us on? What can we guess about the character or the poet? (5 mins)

  2. Identify the following devices in the poem: oxymoron, imagery, personification and metaphor. (10 mins)

  3. Look at the quotes on slide 7. What theme do you think the poem presents? (5 mins)

  1. Complete the table to respond to the question: how does the poet use techniques and ideas to present the theme of identity. (20 mins)

  1. Write down a list of words that would describe how a person would feel the first time they saw their disfigured face. (5 mins)

  2. Read the article about Katie P. (5 mins)

  3. Write a diary entry from the perspective of Katie P describing the first time she saw her face. (20 mins)

  4. List reasons why you think people have plastic surgery. (5 mins)

  5. ‘Plastic surgery is unhealthy’ write down your thoughts about this statement. (5 mins)

  6. Look at the images of the celebrities.

  1. Do they look different?

  2. Do you think they have had plastic surgery?

  3. Do they look better before or after?

  4. The NHS should provide cosmetic surgery for anyone that wants to improve their image. (non life-threatening conditions) Produce a speech for or against presenting your point of view. (30 mins)
