This week learning is on Iconic designs.

Task 1:

  • Watch these three video clips.

  • Summarise the key information within 200 words.

  • You should explain Iconic design, the difference between the Eames chair and the Robin Day polyprop chair.

  • Highlight some 5 tier words in your explanation.

Task 2:

Answer the following questions:

  • What is an Iconic design? Give two examples.

  • What makes the Eames chair so comfortable?

  • What are the disadvantages of the Eames chair?

  • What makes the Robin Day chair so durable and fit for purpose?

  • State five disadvantages of the Robin Day chair.

Task 3:

Can you draw an innovative chair of your choice in isometric view.

Task 4:

Can you state three things you have learnt today.

This week's learning is perspective and exploded drawing.

Task 1

Watch these two video clips:

Follow the steps and practice drawing in (single & two point) perspective and exploded drawing.

You will need an A4 piece of paper, pencil and a ruler.

Task 2

Summarise the key information within 100 words.

You should explain (single & two point) perspective and exploded drawings in full sentences.

Task 3

With this skill can you draw two products of your choice one in exploded view and the other in one or two point perspective view.

Task 4

Can you state three things you have learnt today.

This week's learning is perspective and exploded drawing.

Task 1

Your next task is to answer the following questions:

  • What are gears?

  • What are CAMS?

  • How does the pear shaped cam work?

  • What are followers, give two examples?

  • Name two products that will use a flat follower?

  • What are the disadvantages of the knife follower?

  • What are the common faults seen in a CAM system?

For your final task you need to state three things that you have learnt today.

  • To be able to apply this skill in drawing an educational gadget for a young person.

Total study time: 2 hours

Task 1

This home learning task is practising/drawing in isometric view.

Watch this video clip and follow the steps, practise drawing in isometric view. You will need a pencil, an A4 piece of paper/grid paper, set square and a ruler.

Task 2

Using the isometric drawing skill learnt in task 1, you are required to draw an educational gadget. Your target audience/customer ranges from age 3 and above.

Task 3

Describe the steps in drawing in isometric view. Use at least 30 words and complete sentences in your description.
