Week 8

Watch this week's video seminar above, where Miss Russell talks you through the tasks this week. Find attached the PowerPoint presentation.

It will be useful to download the PDF of Holes but you can also view this online.

An audiobook is also available if you prefer to listen and follow the text.

  1. Read the following extract from the novel ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar (slide 3-4).

  2. Answer the questions that follow (slide 5-7). Read the questions carefully, making sure you understand what is needed for each answer.

  3. Checking the number of marks awarded for each question may help: an answer with 1 or 2 marks is probably a short answer, perhaps some words/phrases or maybe a whole sentence, whereas an answer with 3, 4 or 5 marks will be much longer, perhaps a few sentences or a paragraph or more.

  4. Complete the Punctuation quiz that begins on slide 8. Rounds comprise of either 5 or 10 questions.

  5. Answers are provided at the end of the round; you must add up how many answers you got right.

  6. You must get all aspects of the question right to gain marks for that particular question (for example, all commas must be in the correct place on a comma question to gain a single mark).
