Total study time this week: 2 hours

Office hours

If you have any questions or need support, I am available via email for instant feedback at the time shown below.

  • Teacher: Mrs Karim

  • Office hours: Wednesday 4pm - 5pm (You can contact Mrs Karim here)

You can also email your teacher at any time.

Tasks to be submitted by 4pm on Friday:

  • Your point score and completed challenges.

The Performing Arts Challenge Grid

This week your work in Performing Arts is a little different - I want you to challenge yourself with The Performing Arts Challenge Grid.

Watch the loom video above and choose which of the Performing Arts Challenges you are going to undertake. Each have been given a different number of points and in year 12 I want you to aim to achieve at least 10 points. Obviously if you wish to really challenge yourself and complete more of the tasks that would be awesome! You could even continue to work on the challenges over the summer break.

Some Tips to Link with your A Level Work:

  • Look at Performances on YouTube of either Doctor Faustus, Fences or plays we are interested in to perform for your Component 2 such as Find Me by Olwen Wymark or Metamorphosis by Steven Berkoff. You could then write a review of the performance you watched thinking of ideas we could use for our performance or inspirations for your concepts with Doctor Faustus.

  • You could perform to your family your monologue from our devised piece that we still need to perform. Ask a family member to record you and evaluate yourself. (This would be great at helping you remember this performance work).

Send me your point score and completed tasks by the deadline 4pm Friday 24th July.

Well done for all your hard work this term - I look forward to seeing you after the summer break.

Mrs Karim

Doctor Faustus - Performance Concept

This week I would like you to develop and justify your performance concept for Doctor Faustus - considering how you are going to engage a modern audience with this play from the 16th Century? Consider the following:

  • Imagine you have an unlimited budget how would you stage this play for maximum impact on a modern audience?

  • What stage type would you use and why?

  • Would you incorporate levels? Why?

  • What practitioners could inspire your concept? Why?

  • Consider your use of stage technologies and design – could you incorporate masks, puppetry, Lighting FX and SFX

  • Would elements such as set and costume be important for your communication of meaning – explain.

  • It’s always a good idea to consider key scenes/characters and how they will feature in your concept. Will you incorporate set changes?

Your responses to the above will form an important revision tool that you can further develop as we move towards your final written exam. You may wish to do any of the below or a mixture of the different styles of presentation:

  • Provide a written explanation of your concept.

  • Draw a series of annotated diagrams that presents your concept.

  • Create a scale stage model presenting your concept.
