Week beginning 20th July

This week's focus: To understand how to create a good quality artist research/ analysis page.

Task: To create a good quality Artist research page.

Step 1: Decorate the background in a way that links to the artist’s style of work.

Step 2: Create an artistic title that links to the artist’s style of work.

Step 3: Write your research and analysis out neatly and add to your page.

Step 4: Add some printed images of the artist’s work.

Possible Artist’s to use:

Natural Forms: Andy Goldsworthy, Angela Schwer, Angie Lewin, Anya Gallaccio, Pomme Chan.

Mechanical: Augustine Kofie, Atsishi Koyama, Jim Dine, Andrew Chase, Craig Stephens.

This week's focus: To explore natural/mechanical forms through coloured pencil drawings.

Task: To create a coloured pencil drawing of your chosen theme of natural/mechanical forms.

1) Draw out the main shapes and outlines.

2) Add in the smaller details.

3) Gradually layer up different colours to create accurate colours/ tones.

4) Use lines and other mark-making to create texture.

This week's focus: To explore natural/mechanical forms through sculpture.

Part 1: Sketch out two design ideas for a sculpture inspired by natural or mechanical forms.

Part 2: Create your sculpture from one or more of your design ideas.

You can create your sculpture whevever you want, this could be in your living rooms, bedrooms, gardens, parks etc...

It would be great if you could take photos at stages showing your step by step process as this will look great when mounting onto boards. It will also allow viewers to take a look at your thought processes from start to finish.

If you can not manage to join/stick items together, take a photograph of your sculpture when finished and then dismantle it afterwards.

Materials you could use:

• Leaves

• Plants

• Wood

• Metal

• Foil

• Plastic

• Cardboard

• Newspaper

• Paper

Remember to be creative and do not be afraid to make mistakes!

This week's focus: To explore natural/mechanical forms by producing accurate observational drawings from your own photographs using the grid method.

This week's task: Produce an grid drawing from one of your photographs from last week.

If you have not managed to take any photographs you will have to draw from an object in front of you or use an image from the internet.

Success criteria:

1) Draw out your grid.

2) Draw out the main shapes and outlines.

3) Begin to add smaller details.

4) Use a variety of tones to create light and dark.

5) Use mark making to create different textures.

6) Fill the page.

Please email me your creations by Friday 4pm.

This weeks focus: To explore natural/mechanical forms by producing accurate observational drawings from your own photographs.

What do you think makes a successful observational drawing?

This week's task: Produce an observational drawing from one of your photographs from last week.

If you have not managed to take any photographs you will have to draw from an object in front of you or use an image from the internet.

Success criteria:

1) Draw out the main shapes and outlines.

2) Add in the smaller details.

3) Use a variety of tones to create light and dark areas and shapes – this creates a 3D form.

4) Use mark making to create different textures.

5) Fill the page.

This weeks focus: Explore your chosen theme through photography.

This week's task: Consider your chosen theme and take 10 photographs of items/objects related to your theme.

These photographs can be taken in:

• In your homes.

• Gardens.

• Parks.

• On your walks.

• Anywhere you think your theme has been explored.

Please ensure your photographs are clear and show either natural or mechanical.

You can use a smartphone camera to take your pictures

If you do not have access to a camera you can find pictures on the internet you would like to use as part of your project.

If you do not have internet access, note down what objects/items you have found and email them to you teacher. (You can also create some observational drawings of them)

This needs to be completed this week as you will use your photographs for next week’s task.

This weeks focus: Artist Research

• Starter: What are the 5 main aspects to include on an artist research page?

This week's task:

• Step 1: Decorate the background in a way that links to the artist’s style of work.

• Step 2: Create an artistic title that links to the artist’s style of work.

• Step 3: Write your research and analysis out neatly and add to your page.

• Step 4: Add some printed images of the artist’s work. (Leave a space for drawing)

Possible artists to look at...

• Mechanical: Augustine Kofie, Atsishi Koyama, Jim Dine, Andrew Chase, Craig Stephens.

Any work you can do towards the project you are studying will really benefit you later down the line. This could be drawings, paintings, sewing, research pages. Please be creative with this and use the materials you have available at home. I have listed some tasks below which should also be done.

1. Create TWO detailed drawings/paintings relating to the theme of your project.

2. Create TWO artist research pages, finding artists and designers which relate to your theme

3. Catch up on all outstanding work, including annotation and mounting where possible.

4. Go through your work and improve your presentation. This may be re-do titles, and general annotation

5. Draw up a plan for a final piece for this project.

Task: Create a page of drawings related to your chosen theme (natural or mechanical)

Various sketches/ drawings which link to your chosen theme. You should use a wide variety of materials on these in order to show experimentation e.g. pencil, pen, pencil crayons, oil pastels, watercolours, acrylic paint, ink, charcoal, collage etc.

• Some of these should link to the artists that you have researched.

• Some of them should also be drawn from your own photos. You will get extra marks for doing this.
